Welcome to a lecture in Uppsala University Library's series "En kvart över". Listen to Andreas Korn, senior lecturer at the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy, when he demonstrates Gaia Sky at Ångström Visualisation Lab.

Andreas is a stellar archaeologist trying to decypher the origin and evolution of the chemical elements and the Milky Way Galaxy. One of his current big-science projects is ESA’s Galactic Surveyor Gaia (2013–2019). Gaia is expected to measure the 3D positions and space motions of more than 1,000,000,000 (> 1 billion!) stars in the Galaxy.

Gaia Sky is a free, cross-platform software to explore and visualise the data collected by the Gaia satellite. Ultimately, it will contain the full data set of Gaia measurements (3D positions, space motions, physical parameters).

This lecture will be held in English, is open to the public.
