The Forum for Africa Studies invites Uppsala University students from all disciplines to participate in an interdisciplinary discussion of the challenges associated with responding to the increased prevalence of non-communicable diseases in Africa.
In Africa as elsewhere, health, culture and politics are usually intertwined. During this seminar we focus on the specific case of diabetes and draw examples from Uganda. Together we will consider biomedical, political economic, social, cultural and ethical dimensions of efforts to reduce the burden of diabetes.
Guest speakers at the event are Meena Daivadanam (PhD, Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Uppsala University) and Eren Zink (PhD, Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology and Forum for Africa Studies, Uppsala University).
Sandwiches and non-alcoholic drinks will be served to the first 45 people that arrive. Seating at the seminar is limited to 45 people. The language of this event is English.
