Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in the world. Developments in the last 50 years enable medical doctors and health professionals to diagnose, evaluate and treat patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, the proper implementation of these developments in clinical practice is imperfect and inaccessible to populations from underdeveloped regions and remote places. In that context, Telemedicine provides solutions for the widespread access of these deprived populations to diagnostic methods and specialised care. More recently, AI has opened the possibility of catalizing the benefits of telemedicine, by reducing the cost and improving the accuracy of telediagnosis, for example. In this talk, I discuss the current and future perspectives of AI in telemedicine for cardiovascular diseases. My discussion builds upon the experience of running a telemedicine service in Brazil that respond to more than 60,000 calls per month and from my current work that aims to develop AI in cardiology enabled by datasets with millions of registries constructed from historical data from this service.
