In this talk I will describe some of the problems, data, systems and machine learning methodology developed over the last 3 years at the London Air Quality project at The Alan Turing Institute.

Going back to the beginning of the partnership with the Greater London Authority and the identification of high air pollution levels as the key problem London has been facing as a city, I will describe the main goals of the project, the key data sources streaming in our platform and dive in some of the modelling challenges behind this Urban Digital Twin. I will give an overview of the machine learning and statistical methodology developed to tackle some of the underlying challenges of dealing with nonstationary, nonseparable, spatio-temporal processes and with multiple sensing networks of varying sampling periods and resolutions.
